Designer Q&A:
Q) What was your brief from the client?
They clients wanted a contemporary Shaker-style kitchen with some personality and a practical island.
Q) How did you answer the brief?
Open shelving has allowed the client to personalise their kitchen and inject personality into the space. We also added an integrated pantry featuring internal solid oak drawers and dedicated spice racks on each door. The stunning island meanwhile creates a focal point within the space and includes a Belfast sink unit, integrated dishwasher and a pull-out bin to give them a complete solution to the wet zone of the kitchen area. An open book shelf on the island also allows them to display their collection of cookery books.
Q) Which products did you use and why?
The main features include two Siemens ovens and a gas hob, a Belfast sink and a Perrin and Rowe tap.
Q) Was there any building work invoived?
No, as it was a new extension to the property.
Q) What elements do you think make the scheme so successful?
The colour palette with its on-trend green, paired with brass and complemented by the Silestone Ariel worksurfaces works so well. The modern Shaker design works beautifully with the eclectic feel of the space and we love the Crittall doors and the warmth that the wooden floor brings to the room.
Q) Any advice for someone who may be planning a new kitchen?
Start early and find inspiration on popular social media platforms such as Instagram, houzz and pinterest then envisage how you see yourself using the kitchen and the problems you faced using your old one. Give a clear brief to your designer, have an idea of budget, do some research on the appliances and most of all, enjoy the process.
Q) Any trend predictions for 2022?
Monochrome, dark colours, contrasting tones. We are also seeing a lot more use of wood.
