Global design competition Electrolux Design Lab gives students from across the world an opportunity to share their creative ideas and shape the homes of tomorrow. This year marks the thirteenth anniversary with the theme ‘Healthy Happy Kids’.

With this in mind, Design Lab has been looking for ideas for products, accessories, consumables and services under three focus areas: cooking, fabric care and air purification. To enter, students simply needed to submit a description of their idea with a visual sketch to illustrate and copy depicting its consumer benefits.

There are currently 35 entries that have made it to the semi-finals. These include the UK’s Angelo D’Onoforio whose Electroluxhub is an educational cooking experience for children based in a virtual reality, aimed to encourage the development of children’s cooking. It’s driven by five factors – education, diet, digital trends, kinaesthetic learning and engaging both child and parent in cooking.

Bloom by the UK’s Jordan Lee Martin bridges the gap between digital and practical education by encouraging good kitchen habits in a fun way. It’s the most efficient kettle in the world with three unique pods that utilise wasted steam and hot water, harnessing them to carry out multiple tasks. Each pod can be used once fitted to the docking base and controlled via a smart device or the kettle’s hub.

Other semi-final designs include a Bioprinter, Future Classroom, Foody, Magic Wand, Cleanspire, ButtonLab, Echodream, Airy Leaf and YoYo Air.
