By

It’s awards season, so we’re bringing you a summary of the winners of the KBB Retail & Design awards… And naturally, we look forward to seeing more of the winning designs on these pages over the next few months. The KBB Retail & Design Awards winners were revealed at ceremony hosted by Joel Dommett at Liverpool Cathedral last month. And for anyone wants to be in the running for the 2022 awards, you and your team can enter here.

Howard Miller, H.Miller Bros Winner, Kitchen Designer of the Year: Project cost £30,000 to £50,000, sponsored by Kitchens Bedrooms & Bathrooms magazine.  H. Miller Bros was founded in 2019 by brothers Hugh and Howard Miller, and Howard created ‘The Seaside Kitchen’ for clients who wanted  large and totally functional kitchen for their busy family life with three young children. Steven Pepper, Suna Interior Design Winner, Bathroom Designer of the Year: Project cost up to £10,000, sponsored by Impey. The winning bathroom was part of the Samuel Square development for Southern Space, with a brief to reflect the heritage of the housing scheme, whilst not going overboard on 1920s pastiche.

Wall-hung fittings, a large mirror and an over-bath shower make the absolute best of the space in this small bathroom.

David Hall, David Hall Kitchen & Furniture Makers, Winner, Kitchen Designer of the Year: Project cost over £50,000. Sponsored by Samsung. The clients described the desired look of their new kitchen as ‘agricultural and refined’, so David Hall knew to avoid a rustic style whilst remaining true to the original agricultural barn structure. The resulting design relates to the industrial heritage of the building, with traditional framed doors, in-frame cabinets and oak dovetail drawers.

Bronze framed glazed cabinets have reeded glass and illuminated oak interiors, and the overall design feels spacious. The pantry door has slender glazing bars and reeded glass to match the cabinetry at the other end of the kitchen.

Diane Berry, Diane Berry Kitchens, Winner, Kitchen Showroom of the Year, Sponsored by InSinkErator. Diane Berry Kitchens are always sleek, often with a quirky touch and very often a mix of materials – beautifully displayed in her stunning showroom.

One of the gorgeous Diane Berry Kitchens displays… Eggersmann cabinetry, featuring a laser-cut island back panel, dark work surfaces and striking chevron veneered full-height pocket doors disguising a bank of appliances.

Keith and Helena MyersThe Myers Touch, Winner, Kitchen Retailer of the Year, Sponsored by Neff. This gorgeous studio may seem familiar, and indeed, we have featured it in one of our showroom stories a few months ago in April. Developing new marketing approaches during lockdown generated more awareness and interest in the studio, one strategy saw them creating a monthly design talk series allowing them to communicate directly with potential clients.

The dramatic studio features an array of design details and many different materials and textures. The wooden table here has a hidden rising TV at the end, standing against the bespoke planter.

Johnny Grey, Johnny Grey Studios was given the Special Achievement Award, Sponsored by Hansgrohe  A Johnny Grey bespoke kitchen is of course, immediately recognizable, and is absolutely unique, with curves, angles, different levels and unexpected finishes all flowing together to create a beautifully observed whole. This is just one of his kitchens, the ‘Modern Arts & Crafts’ kitchen, see more details here.

This light-filled kitchen fills all the requirements, with spaces to sit, serve, prep, relax and view the garden too; the ground floor had been completely re-worked to an open-plan layout.

And lastly: Quooker We also want to give a special mention to the Quooker team, who were given the Lockdown Support Special Award, sponsored by KBB Birmingham 2022.  The finalists of this special category included Blanco, Gerberit, Franke, Masterclass Kitchens and Virtual Worlds.

Stephen Johnson, MD, Quooker, said ‘Winning the Lockdown Support Special Award at the KBB Review Awards is a real honour. We know how hard lockdown has been on our customers, dealers and showrooms nationwide and we were grateful to have the opportunity to run a series of initiatives that supported the KBB industry through these strange times. Throughout the pandemic and resultant tough trading conditions, it became increasingly apparent that for our sector to survive, we had a collective responsibility to offer support wherever possible. We’ve been fortunate enough to be able to offer that support and look forward to watching the industry thrive again.’  Above, the Quooker Flex tap in Chrome
