IFA Update
In early September, the world’s leading trade show for consumer electronics and home appliances took Berlin by storm. Here are just some of the highlights coming to a kitchen near you…
AEG (www.aeg.co.uk)
AEG launched the world’s first responsive cooking experience with its Mastery Range – an innovative new kitchen that responds to the user, featuring adaptive appliances that work in harmony to create a seamless experience. The concept, which will be introduced in May 2017, is all about streamlining and customising for the most enjoyable cooking experience, while also providing an adaptive and appealing social space.
The new range includes a SenseCook oven with Food Sensor and Command Wheel. It comes with an integrated food probe for greater accuracy and a command wheel that allows you to interact with the oven, so you can specify how you’d like your food cooked.
The Hob2Hood and MaxiSense induction hob will ‘talk’ to each other to leave your kitchen steam and odour free. As well as an automatic extraction function while you’re cooking, it also has an atmospheric ‘Skylight’ setting that leaves a warm glow in your kitchen and a ‘Breeze’ setting for a gentle, quieter flow of air.
AEG’s ComfortLift dishwasher is the first of its kind, as it comes with a unique hinge that allows the lower rack to be lifted up and towards the user to help with loading and unloading. Efficient and ergonomic.
Its CustomFlex fridge is the most adaptive storage system on the market with customisable door storage and a dual cooling system that preserves taste and texture.
And last but not least, the ProSource water tap is a 3-in-1 solution that delivers fresh, purified steaming, hot and cold water. It also comes with insulated spout and a child safety function.
GORENJE (www.gorenje.co.uk)
This year, the company focused on its Retro cooling collection, which has recently been re-launched to include cutting-edge food preservation technology.
HOOVER (www.hoover.co.uk)
Hoover introduced its new premium collection for Hoover Built-in as well as Candy’s unique proprietary technology in touch control cooking.
HAIER (www.haier.com)
Bringing a splash of personalised colour to the kitchen, Haier launched the first custom-coloured combi fridge-freezer, which allows consumers to select their preferred colour from a nearly unlimited palette for perfect integration into any kitchen design.
The brand also introduced Fresher Techs®, a new approach to freshness with a set of exclusive cooling techniques such as the Fresher Pad, a removable aluminium plate located in the freezer that accelerates the process of freezing threefold. Fresher Sensors on every fridge shelf instantly detect temperature changes to distribute cool air to specific areas while Fresher Zones, Dry & Humidity Zones and an Instant Cool Zone also keep the contents fresh for longer. They also showcased a new collection of combi and French door refrigerators equipped with easy access freezer drawers.
Haier also revealed a brand new product category with the launch of its stylish cooking range featuring a new line of built-in ovens and hobs in matt black or stainless steel. It also unveiled Haier Duo Dry, the world’s first double-drum washer and dryer. With two drums that can simultaneously wash fabrics of varying colours and materials, the larger drum can be switched to drying mode so you can wash and dry at the same time.
LG (www.lg.com)
LG displayed its expanding Smart home ecosystem, in collaboration with Amazon. Its SmartThinQ Hub is now compatible with Amazon Echo’s intelligent personal assistant Alexa, allowing users to control connected LG home appliances using their voice, without a smartphone. The SmartThinQ Sensor with Amazon Dash also allows you to order household items with the press of a button, so your washing machine can notify you when the cycle is complete and order more detergent.
The company also demonstrated its Smart InstaView Door-in-Door refrigerator with a 29 inch transparent touchscreen, which can be used as both a monitor and a window to peek inside the fridge without opening the door. It can even run various apps to view recipes, listen to music, watch videos and shop online.
SAMSUNG (www.samsung.com)
Samsung Electronics announced a two-door fridge-freezer version of its acclaimed Family Hub refrigerator, which features exclusive Twin Cooling Plus technology and Precise Chef Cooling. Also, three inner-view cameras take photos of the fridge’s contents each time the doors close, so you can see what you have to eat at any time and from anywhere using your smartphone. You can even keep track of use-by dates…
