100% Design
Yesterday I spent an inspiring afternoon at 100% Design. This annual exhibition, held at London’s Earl’s Court, brings together exciting and innovative new products and concepts from established brands and up-and-coming designers. This year was the biggest and best yet, with separate hubs for kitchens & bathrooms, interiors, office, eco, design & build, emerging brands and future living.
Here are my top 5 products to watch:
1) CONTEMPORARY CONTOURS FOR HI-MACS®
LG Hausys, manufacturer of HI-MACS® natural acrylic stone, presented a kitchen made entirely from this seamless solid surface material. Big, bold and beautifully crafted, its white surfaces are built up from rounded layers for an undulating island centrepiece. The display demonstrates how HI-MACS® is both practical and aesthetically stunning (www.himacs.eu)
2) RETRO REVIVAL FROM DEVOL KITCHENS
Over at the deVOL stand, the Air kitchen stood head and shoulders above the rest thanks to its combination of retro styling and soft, curvaceous cabinetry. Inspired by everything from the iconic Airstream caravan to Marc Newson’s Lockhead Lounge chair, it’s the perfect blend of classic and contemporary design (www.devolkitchens.co.uk/air)
3) COOL COLOURS FROM CORIAN®
A refined and enhanced colour palette for DuPont™ Corian® is shown in the UK for the first time at 100% Design. There are 72 tones to choose from in the refreshed spectrum – in three groups of solid, translucent and textured hues – developed specially for a wide variety of architectural and design projects, residential and commercial, interior and exterior (www.corian-colour-evolution.com)
4) EXTRACTION WITH A DIFFERENCE AT BORA
We’ve all seen downdraft extractors, which pop up effortlessly from the worktop when needed to extract cooking vapours from the same level as the pan. Now German brand Bora has gone one step further with a flush or surface mounted extractor that draws vapours downwards instead. There are two models – Classic and Professional – with features such as touch controls, quiet 54dB noise level and a 16-layer stainless steel filter (www.boragmbh.com)
5) METTE’S PICK & MIX SELECTION
If, like me, you can never decide on one look or material for your worktop, you’ll love Mette’s Chop & Change food and drink workspace system, which enables you to combine modules in different materials, textures and patterns to create a totally unique worksurface. The system at the show was a mix of reworked wood and bold Portuguese pattern next to contemporary stone and cool steel – there was even a built-in herb garden for good measure (www.mettecreates.com)
The show runs till 22 September so if you get the chance to take a look, I highly recommend it. (www.100percentdesign.co.uk)
